A gold striped awning and windows filled with books beckon visitors through the doors of the Yankee Bookshop in Woodstock, Vermont. Once inside, it’s hard to leave without a book in hand!
Opened in 1935, Yankee Bookshop is the oldest, continuously operated independent bookshop in Vermont. Despite big box retailers and online megastores, this quaint shop keeps chugging along, thanks to dedicated customers who love nothing more than perusing aisles of carefully curated books. The diversity of titles is impressive for a small shop, and visitors will be delighted with a selection that includes local to world history, fiction, biography, cooking, and so much more.Yankee Bookshop has a particularly engaging children’s section that includes puzzles and board books. Don’t see what you’re looking for? The staff will be happy to take your request and go searching. The shop also carries greeting cards, stationery, and gift books.
In addition to a great inventory, the store draws visitors with an interesting lineup of literary tevents throughout the year. Next up on November 13: Peter Stark, author of Young Washington, a new book on the early life of our first President. This event will be held at the Norman Williams Public Library. Be sure to check the Yankee Bookshop website and Facebook pages for up-to-date information on more future events.
