Any given performance can bring together business people and teens, professional musicians and talented next-door neighbors. And no matter what the show, one thing is always guaranteed: a delightful time!

This summer, Barn Arts Center is featuring It Can’t Happen Here, a play based on the 1935 novel by Sinclair Lewis that will be performed at Feast and Field, an outdoor venue in Barnard. This cautionary satire focuses on the rise of a demagogue to President of the United States, who promotes a new patriotism after fomenting negative societal fears. Witnessing all that is happening is a Vermont newspaperman who believes in the democratic system’s ability to withstand an assault—until he ends up in a prison camp. This thought-provoking drama will be followed this fall by the raucous Mel Brooks musical, The Producers.
