You might say Cabot Creamery is a cheese whiz. Since 1919, the Vermont company has been churning out quality cheddars and other award-winning products. Owned by 1,200 dairy farm families from New England and New York, the coop now operates four plants, employing more than 1,000 people, and producing an impressive range of cheeses, yogurt, cottage cheese, sour cream, dips, butter and whipped cream.
Inn guests can get a close-up look—and enjoy tasty samples—by visiting the Cabot Visitors Center located just over an hour north of Barnard in Cabot, Vermont.
The drive itself is a joy, a scenic route of rolling hills dotted with idyllic farms.
To make the most of your visit, take a guided tour where you can learn about cheese-making, as well as the company’s history. Following the tour, visitors are invited to taste some of the wonderful cheeses, including popular World’s Best Cheddar and Best Flavored Cheddar. Be sure to call first to make confirm they’ll be making cheese on the day you plan to stop by. And of course, no visit is complete without a stop in the store for cheese or other products to take home.
