Vermont Winter Activities

Our beautiful Vermont winters provide lots of opportunities for outdoor winter activities including:

Vermont Downhill Skiing/Cross Country Skiing/Snowboarding

Downhill skiing is just around the corner - either world class terrain and facilities at Killington (the biggest ski resort east of the Rocky Mountains) or our friendly little Suicide Six resort. Both have everything you need - snowmaking, lessons, and equipment. Maybe this is the year you try snowboarding?

Is cross country skiing more your style? Consider the Woodstock Ski Touring Center or Wilderness Trails in Quechee. Mountain Meadows near Killington makes snow for one of their cross country trails to make sure you can ski no matter what mother nature says.

Vermont Snowshoes

Snow shoeing is becoming one of our fastest growing winter sports. If you have your own shoes, we can point you to trails on our 16 acre grounds or send you to the nearby Silver Lake State Park - its fun to snowshoe across the lake and visit the ice fishermen in their shanty. You can rent snowshoes at Woodstock Sports or Wilderness Trails where you can sign up for a snowshoe trek through the woods conducted by a local amateur naturalist to spot wildlife signs in the deep woods.

Vermont Skating/Sleigh Riding

We have several places for skating (dependent upon weather conditions) either bring your own skates or rent them from Woodstock Sports. The Kedron Valley Stables does romantic sleigh rides for couples through the quiet woods of South Woodstock - their sunset sleigh ride is very romantic and very popular! On holiday weekends throughout the winter you can take a big sleigh ride at the Billings Farm and Museum where huge farm plow horses pull the hay wagon across the snow swept fields - you'll feel like a kid again.

Vermont Snowmobiling

Just like skiing while sitting down! Everyone should try this at least once. The tour operators provide everything including helmets, warm clothing and the ride of your life. Check out their sites at Vermont Snowmobile Tours and Adventures in Snowmobiling.
