The cool summers make Vermont an ideal destination for outdoor activities like:
Vermont Golfing
Some of these challenging tournament quality golf courses include the Woodstock CC, The Quechee Club, Green Mountain National Golf Course, or Killington Golf Course.
If you just want to have a fun round of golf, we also offer some easier and modestly priced courses such as White River CC, Montague Country Club, or Larkin Golf Course. All of these courses are within a half hour drive of the Maple Leaf Inn.
Vermont Biking
Do you want to try the challenge of mountain biking to the top of Vermont's second highest mountain peak? Or join up with a tour group to explore some of our Vermont back roads? How about renting a bike from one or our local bike shops or bring your own bike - we can provide you with a map to help you find your way there and back again.
Vermont Hiking
The Appalachian Trail is just a few minutes drive from our door and the Long Trail (where you will find the popular Robert Frost Trail) is a short drive into the Green Mountain National Forest. For a short hike you might consider the trail to the top of Mount Tom overlooking the village of Woodstock or perhaps a trip down into the bottom of the Quechee Gorge. We also have some well barked but semi-improved trails through the woods at our Maple Leaf inn. Nearby Killington opens their Adventure Center each summer for hiking, mountain biking and other outdoor activities.
Vermont Horseback Riding/Carriage Rides
The Kedron Valley Stables and the Green Mountain Horse Association are located in South Woodstock, the heart of Vermont horse country. Be sure to check the GMHA site for information on the many equestrian events held each summer. If you love horses, be sure to put the Morgan Horse Farm in Middlebury on your list of places to see.
Vermont Fishing/Swimming/Boating
The Pristine waters of our local lakes and streams provide ideal conditions for fly fishing, canoeing, swimming or kayaking. If you have your own tackle, we can help you find a local fishing hole - if you need lessons, equipment or a guide, try Wilderness Trails or Trout on the Fly. Canoes and kayaks can be rented at Silver Lake State Park just around the corner from our Maple Leaf Inn. Our little lake is a beautiful crystal clear lake created when the glaciers receded at the end of the last ice age. There is a swimming beach at the lake as well - if you can take the cold clear water!
